Psalm 103:7

Psalm 103:7

He made known his ways to Moses,

his deeds to the people of Israel:

On our journey through Psalm 103, David pauses to reveal a benefit of God by telling his readers that God revealed is ways to Moses and he revealed his deeds  to the people.

Moses, the appointed leader, was close to God. God revealed himself in many ways including appearing to him in the form of a cloud. God called Moses and entrusted to him his methods, his law, his ways.

One example of this is found in Exodus 34. After Moses threw down the tablets containing the Ten Commandments, Moses had a second encounter with God where he promised to give them again. Listen in on their conversation:

The Lord said to Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai. Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain.  No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain; not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain.”

So Moses chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the Lord had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands.  Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord.  And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,  maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped.  “Lord,” he said, “if I have found favor in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.”

Then the Lord said: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you. 11 Obey what I command you today.

Like Moses, God reveals himself to us today. It may not be in a cloud, but he does so through the Bible, the Holy Spirit, and through trusted pastors teachers and friends.  As a Christ-follower, we have a committed relationship that includes loyalty, trust, and a desire to know one another. As leaders, God often reveals himself  to those he trusts to carry out his purposes.

God loves us and wants us to know him. Yes, the God who created the universe wants to commune with you and me. He reveals His character, His ways to us personally. We need to get this. He is not hidden. He is not avoiding you. He is readily accessible to anyone who calls on his name.

So I ask myself, “Am I listening to God when he reveals himself? Do I hear him saying words like : “I am the compassionate one, abounding in love, filled with forgiveness.”?

Dear God, I acknowledge to you that I know you want to tell me about you. I believe you have wisdom for me that is far beyond what I could ever dream, and you want to provide comfort, direction, and information that will help me see you more clearly. Oh Lord, help me, right here, right now, to stop, be still, and wait for your voice. You are my God and I love you.

Show me your ways, Lord,

   teach me your paths. NIV
